EMERGENCY RELIEF DRIVE
|
The weekend of September 17, 2022, blasted the coast of western Alaska with a historic storm surge. Villages along the coast received winds up to 90 mph along with 50-foot seas. The typhoon was the strongest storm to enter the Bering Sea in September in 70 years.
Arctic Mission Adventure, along with Alaska Adventist Community Services, have joined together to provide relief to Alaska villages devastated by this event. As part of the Alaska Volunteer Organizations Assisting in Disasters (VOAD), we are focusing on providing tier-one support to villages outside of hub areas that need immediate basic survival resources. We are first focusing on villages that have been hit the hardest to include the region from Golovin to Unalakleet. Within this region, we have identified five communities in need of immediate assistance: Elim, Golovin, Koyuk, Shaktoolik, and Unalakleet. We are accepting both in-kind and financial donations in support of this effort. We ask that in-kind donations be limited to specific items identified below and that the donations be within the Anchorage/Matanuska-Valley area. For those residing outside of the region, your financial gift will be used to purchase needed items and transport physical donations to impacted villages. |
