Alaska Camps has always been an active part of ministry throughout Alaska with our resident camps in Southcentral, Southeast and Arctic Alaska. Camp Polaris, located in Dillingham Alaska, has been in operation since the early 1950's and has positively impacted the lives of countless Alaskan children over the years. AMA has long realized the potential of offering camp opportunities to other Native communities and in 2018 it was realized through the creation of the AMA Day Camps program.
Utilizing the staff that traditionally serves the Alaska Camps residential program, AMA held week-long day camps in the communities of Bethel, Nome, and Selawik. God blessed these efforts and the summer ended with 85 campers dedicating their lives to Christ and 15 campers, along with two staff, requesting baptism!
In 2019, AMA once again held day camps in Bethel, Nome and Selawik and was able to add a fourth site: Utqiagvik. The possibility of day camps is endless! Along with "traditional camps", we have received requests for music camps. The only thing that is limiting the ministry is time, staff and funding. If your organization is looking for a short-term outreach opportunity, we encourage you to explore the possibility of organizing and hosting a day camp in rural Alaska. The rewards are great and the memories unforgettable!
