Camps

Alaska Camps has always been an active part of ministry throughout Alaska with resident camps in Southcentral, Southeast and Arctic Alaska.  Camp Polaris, located in Dillingham Alaska, has been in operation since the early 1950's and has positively impacted the lives of countless Alaskan children through the years.  AMA has long realized the potential of offering camp opportunities to Native communities and in 2018 created the AMA Day Camp program.

Utilizing staff that traditionally serves the Alaska Camps residential program, AMA holds week-long day camps in community hubs such as Bethel and Nome.  God has blessed these efforts with over 300 additional children served.  In 2018 alone, 85 campers dedicated their lives to Christ.

The possibility of day camps is endless!  Along with traditional resident camps, AMA has received requests for music camps. Through the Alaska Mission Experience, AMA is looking to build a program that brings music and instruments to village children; when the camp ends, the instruments remain along with resources to further learning.  If your organization is looking for a short-term outreach opportunity, AMA encourages you to explore the possibility of organizing and hosting a day camp in rural Alaska.  The rewards are great and the memories unforgettable!

Meet Tricia

Picture
Tricia discovered the “Seventh-day” church when she attended a kid’s program one Sabbath held by volunteer Bible workers living in Selawik. She started helping with the program every week and learned of God through the actions of the Bible workers. Tricia’s understanding of God continued to grow as Alaska Camps staff came to Selawik to put on a Vacation Bible School. In 2019, Tricia dedicated her life to Jesus through baptism while working for Alaska Camps. Tricia has gone on to attend Native leadership training and shares: “Attending the kid’s program, Vacation Bible School and camps helped me to learn how much God loves me and that I can a count on Him through the really tough times in my life. Since I got baptized, I want to share what God is doing and will do for other kids in my village. Kids in the village have nowhere to go and nothing to do.  I would like to tell the kids in my village that I choose to follow Jesus, that they can talk to God and follow Him, and that God will help and be there no matter what”.
